Information for new students

None of the following is compulsory (no detentions!), but will definitely help you get the most out of your tuition.

The bullet points below are about organisation. Being organised is a really important life skill. Being organised for school and tuition is a great place to start!

  • Bring a separate notebook for work done in tuition sessions to every lesson

  • Bring your own calculator to every lesson

  • Bring your own pens, pencils and ruler to every lesson

  • Be on time

  • Make sure written work is set out neatly

  • Keep any notes from school or tuition neatly organised

These bullet points are about how to engage with the lessons to have the most effect.

  • Come to each lesson knowing what you want to get done in that lesson (e.g. specific topics or methods you want to learn)

  • Think about what you don’t understand between tuition sessions. If something comes up in class that you don’t understand, write it down and bring it!

  • Do some work at home between tuition sessions - even if it is just one practice question! Thinking about the subject only once per week (in our sessions) won’t give the most benefit.

  • The more effort you put into your tuition, the more benefit you get out from it. Write notes, listen actively, ask questions, be active! Getting tuition is not about just sitting there hoping you absorb some information - you have to get involved!
